PRESS RELEASE

October 15, 2009

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WILL THEIR DIVORCE BE THE END?
Planning for the future of their family may be Jon and Kate’s best option

Silver Springs, MD – Oct. 15, 2009 - As the media devours each and every negative appearance of Jon and Kate Gosselin of the highly rated TLC program Jon and Kate Plus Eight, TLC is looking for ways to boost the image of the Gosselins and work towards a peaceful resolution for both them and their family.

TLC, an affiliate of Discovery Communications, is in the process of working with the Gosselins to re-focus their very public fight and divorce from negatively impacting their family to instead building a stronger family relationship. Future programming will involve couple and family counseling to limit the negative impact the separation is having on the children.

Eileen O’Neill, President of the TLC network in a recent interview with Brian Stetler from Media Coder (http://mediadecoder.blogs.nytimes.com) said of the future of the show, “We anticipate that the focus will remain on the parent-child relationship.”

The Gosselins released their own statement recently when news broke of their impending divorce; “As many couples do, we are navigating a very difficult time. Our current situation brings us together around the children and some times sets us apart. We keep our faith that we will make the right decisions for our family.”

TLC, the producers of Jon and Kate Plus Eight, and the Gosselins are committed to future programming devoted to their family. Together we hope to build a better image for the family and our network, through family counseling, volunteer work with the Single Parent Association non-profit organization, publicist work with both Jon and Kate, and a new family blog on TLC’s website.

About TLC and the Jon and Kate Plus Eight program:

POSITIONING ‘YOU’ ASSIGNMENT #1

I’ve worked in the radio broadcasting field for almost 14 years primarily as an announcer, but I’ve also gained experience in production and promotions. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the last fourteen years of varied experience in this field, and would like to continue building my career around radio broadcasting specifically as a Promotions Director. After working with two different radio groups and seeing the pros and cons of different management styles I’ve decided to remain with the current company I’m working with, The Cache Valley Radio Group, working into the position of Promotions Director. At this time this particular position does not exist, however from my own observations I think the position of Promotions Director would be vital as the radio industry evolves and changes with new technologies and expectations by the general listening audience.

As an older re-entry student at Utah State University I would like to continue my career in radio broadcasting, and would hate to drastically change the direction of my career at this point in the game due to the difficulty in getting a position and hard earned foot in the door. I am to the point in my personal life that I have the opportunity to finish my education and become more skilled in my desired direction as I build my career. I enjoy working for a smaller radio market because I like to work with people in my own community. I like the fact that we are helping the “mom and pop” businesses in town, and helping them find ways to better represent their businesses and involvement with community events.

As a Promotions Director for the Cache Valley Radio Group, I’d like to take the on-air contests and station promotions to the next level beyond what they are currently involved in. Without any amount of competition in this exclusive small radio market, I feel it is quite easy to become complacent and caught in a rut when it comes to promoting each station. As a result you see the same type of contest or promotion over and over without much variance or creativity. I would like to bring new ideas to the table and infuse more energy, excitement, and productive change as I work to build a successful promotions program that will not only help our advertisers as they promote their own businesses in the valley, but will also directly contribute to a more successful advertising direction within our own group.

I completed a profile on http://www.payscale.com as I researched the field of Promotions Director. I input my anticipated degree from USU, along with my years of experience and locality. According to this site the typical pay scale for a radio promotions director was between $38,929 and $76,976. With a bachelor’s degree, prior experience in the field, along with the realization of a smaller market and cost of living within Cache Valley, I would feel comfortable asking for approximately $40,000 to start on a full time basis. I also compared the average salary figures for promotions director with the website http://www.simplyhired.com. According to their research on average promotions directors in large radio markets were making approximately $58,000 per year.

I researched three job search websites including http://www.simplyhired.com, http://www.monster.com, and http://www.promomagazine.com (a promotions industry site with links to radio jobs throughout the nation). There were approximately 23 current positions that were brought up as a result of my search for “Radio Promotions Director.” Most of the job listings were for large radio markets, and not all involved promotions as the primary job function. Although these figures may seem discouraging, I’ve found in this field, experience and having your foot in the door seem to be the key to success. This further supports my desire to remain with the radio group I am currently working for.

OUTPUT GOAL:

First and foremost my goal is to complete the work needed to earn a Bachelors Degree in Public Relations at Utah State University. I am also completing a minor in Parks and Recreation after seeing the necessity to become more educated in program management and design. I will graduate in the spring of 2011.

INPUT GOALS:

As I work towards graduating from Utah State University I will build a professional portfolio.

I want to develop a proposal for the general manager at The Cache Valley Radio Group so I can pitch the position of Promotions Director successfully.

While I continue to work I will make contact with at least three (3) Promotion Directors in larger radio markets for advice and direction and to find out more industry information to become a successful director within my own radio group.

News just broke of Tiger Woods’ alleged affair with not only one gal, but reports now are up to three! He was keeping mum when his “accident” appeared on every major network all over the world and people began wondering why his wife grabbed a golf club instead of a phone when she heard his SUV crash outside of their Florida home. Talk about a PR Nightmare! He denied claims of an affair, until two more ladies popped up, then out of necessity and I’m sure the urging of his PR rep, he posted a comment on his website:

“I have let my family down and I regret those transgressions with all of my heart,” Woods said on his Web site. “I have not been true to my values and the behavior my family deserves. I am not without faults and I am far short of perfect. I am dealing with my behavior and personal failings behind closed doors with my family. Those feelings should be shared by us alone.

“ I have let my family down and I regret those transgressions with all of my heart. I have not been true to my values and the behavior my family deserves. I am not without faults and I am far short of perfect. I am dealing with my behavior and personal failings behind closed doors with my family. Those feelings should be shared by us alone.

” – Statement by Tiger Woods

“Although I am a well-known person and have made my career as a professional athlete, I have been dismayed to realize the full extent of what tabloid scrutiny really means. For the last week, my family and I have been hounded to expose intimate details of our personal lives. The stories in particular that physical violence played any role in the car accident were utterly false and malicious. Elin has always done more to support our family and shown more grace than anyone could possibly expect.

“But no matter how intense curiosity about public figures can be, there is an important and deep principle at stake which is the right to some simple, human measure of privacy. I realize there are some who don’t share my view on that. But for me, the virtue of privacy is one that must be protected in matters that are intimate and within one’s own family. Personal sins should not require press releases and problems within a family shouldn’t have to mean public confessions.

“Whatever regrets I have about letting my family down have been shared with and felt by us alone. I have given this a lot of reflection and thought and I believe that there is a point at which I must stick to that principle even though it’s difficult.

“I will strive to be a better person and the husband and father that my family deserves. For all of those who have supported me over the years, I offer my profound apology.”

I think honesty would have been the best policy from the beginning both in his personal life and under public scrutiny.

15 SECOND RADIO PSA SCRIPT: STUFF-A-BUS ENCOMPASSES A SERIES OF SERVICE EVENTS THROUGHOUT NOVEMBER AND DECEMBER THAT BENEFIT THE CACHE COMMUNITY FOOD PANTRY AND LOCAL SUB FOR SANTA. EVERY MONDAY NIGHT IN NOVEMBER STUDENT VOLUNTEERS WILL TAKE AGGIE SHUTTLE BUSES THROUGH THE COMMUNITY AND KNOCK ON DOORS FOR NON-PERISHABLE FOOD ITEMS, ALSO WATCH FOR VOLUNTEERS OUTSIDE YOUR FAVORITE GROCERY STORE AND GIVE GENEROUSLY THIS HOLIDAY SEASON! FOR MORE INFORMATION ON HOW YOU CAN DONATE TO THIS GREAT CAUSE GO TO OUR WEBSITE AT HTTP://STUFFABUS.ORG.

60 SECOND TELEVISION PSA: Likeness of the Stuff-A-Bus logo should be the theme inspiration for the television announcement. Use of an actual Aggie Shuttle Bus could be used along with actual student volunteers and local children for the final frame. Like the radio spot, the television PSA will be used to inform the same target audience during local programming while reaching the same demographic audience.

TELVISION SCRIPT: THIS YEAR THE LOCAL NEED FOR ASSISTANCE THROUGH THE CACHE COMMUNITY FOOD PANTRY IS UP 40% COMPARED TO LAST YEAR AT THE SAME TIME AND WE CAN ALL HELP. STUFF-A-BUS ENCOMPASSES A SERIES OF SERVICE EVENTS THROUGHOUT NOVEMBER AND DECEMBER THAT BENEFIT THE CACHE COMMUNITY FOOD PANTRY AND LOCAL SUB FOR SANTA. ______________________________________________________________________________________
Logan, UT – Nov. 17, 2009 – This year the local need for assistance through the Cache Community Food Pantry is up 40% compared to last year at the same time. Matt Whitaker, director of the Cache Community Food Pantry recently said of the higher demand, “There are many people in every part of the United States who are having a very tough time making ends meet because they have lost their jobs or simply cannot find one.

This is the perfect time for everyone to re-examine where they are at in life and do everything they can to not only shore up their own households…but also take a look at how they might make a difference in someone else’s life if they have been fortunate enough to not have been affected by the economic downturn.”

Stuff-a-Bus encompasses a series of service events throughout November and December that benefits both the Cache Community Food Pantry and Sub for Santa organizations. Every Monday night in November student volunteers will take Aggie Shuttle buses through the community and knock on doors for non-perishable food items.

USU Parking and Transportation Director, Lisa Leishman said of the drive, “We are excited to be involved with two wonderful organizations this year for the holidays. This is our way to give back to the community and we encourage everyone to become involved and give generously.”

Boilerplate:

For more information on how to donate to the Cache Community Food Pantry visit them online at http://cachefoodpantry.wordpress.com. Volunteers will be going door to door throughout the months of November and December to collect food, and any donation no matter how large or small is greatly appreciated. For additional information contact Kayleen Barton at 435-363-6601 or by email at Kayleen.barton@aggiemail.usu.edu.
